FORMATION

Our Rotary Club was the first mixed breakfast club in the Sunshine Coast-Gympie area.  As women were taking a bigger role in Rotary, the combined clubs of Nambour and Nambour 76 decided on the option of creating a new mixed club rather than inviting women to become members of those clubs.  A preliminary meeting was held at the Nambour RSL to test interest from both males and females.  Sponsored by the Nambour 76 Club, we  were chartered on 27th. May and had our charter meeting on 5th June 1993.  Initially we applied to be called Maroochy Sunrise, but after some debate we chartered as the new Rotary Club of Woombye Sunrise. The Club chartered as a breakfast club with 35 members.

A NEW NAME

In March 2010, the club was authorised by Rotary International to change its name to the Rotary Club of Woombye-Palmwoods Inc. to extend its area of influence.

Although small, we are an active Club with a diverse mix of members, all with different interests and personal commitments, including retail, trades, administration, professional and retirees.

We have members from Cooroy in the north, to Mapleton in the west and along the central coastal area of the Sunshine Coast.

20 YEARS OF SERVICE

In 2013, the club celebrated 20 years of service to Rotary and the community.
