Vocational Service

ROTARIANS REPRESENTING THEIR VOCATION

This is the avenue of service where each rotarian upholds the values of his/her vocation.

Some of the activities we undertake include:

  • The promotion of the "Four Way Test". A four part statement of the things we say, think & do in order to keep our standards high.
  • Relations with others in our own vocation where a combined effort may make a project more meaningful,
  • Visiting people in their work place, not just rotarians, to see and understand what is involved in their vocation.
Some such visits and activities we have undertaken include:
    • The local fire station to see their operation.
    • MacDonalds food outlet to observe their operation.
    • The local historical museum, which followed up with a community project in painting their premises.
    • Pride in Workmanship Awards where awards are presented to employees who are outstanding in their business life.
    • Paul Harris Fellowship where members of the community or rotary are presented with a certificate and badge to honour the work they have done in their community life.
    • Brian Robinson Award, where a person has experienced a great hurdle in their life but has overcome all barriers to achieve beyond expectation. Brian Robinson was a charter member of our club but died not long after. His dinner badge was used to mount on a shield and use as an award and encouragement to continue even though the recipient may have significant mental or physical barriers in life.
